A Prayer for When You Feel Anxious

Life brings us into seasons where our hearts feel heavy and our minds are racing. It is a deeply human experience to worry about the future, the past, or the unknown. During these moments, we might feel like we are drowning in a sea of “what ifs.” However, God invites us to do more than just survive this stress; He invites us to surrender it.

When Anxiety Comes

Anxiety often feels like a sudden intruder, disrupting our day and stealing our joy. It can manifest as fear or a feeling of being overwhelmed by circumstances. We can take comfort knowing that Scripture also speaks of this struggle. The psalmist often describes the “anxious thoughts” that arise in the night, proving that we are in good company when we face these battles.

There is no shame in admitting that you need help. Reaching out to God is an act of faith, not weakness. By pausing to breathe and turn your eyes upward, you begin to shift the focus from your problem to the Provider. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. You only need to bring it to Him.

Scripture to Lean On

The Bible is filled with verses designed to anchor our souls during turbulent times. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us not to be anxious about anything but to present our requests to God. The promise that follows is that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 56:3 offers a practical solution to fear. It says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” This simple act of trusting shifts our perspective. Additionally, 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all our anxiety on him because he cares for you. These verses remind us that we don’t have to carry the weight of the world on our own shoulders.

A Simple Prayer

Heavenly Father,

I bring my anxieties and worries before You today. Lord, I confess that I often try to handle my fears in my own strength, but I am tired and overwhelmed.

I ask You to calm the storm in my mind and give me Your peace. Help me to let go of the things I cannot control and trust in Your perfect plan. Fill me with hope and remind me that You are always with me.

Thank You for hearing my prayer and for being my refuge. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Questions

Can I pray for anxiety physically?

We encourage you to focus your spiritual efforts on prayer rather than worrying about physical symptoms. Faith is the antidote to fear, so let your focus remain on trusting God’s care for you.

Is it safe to share my anxiety with God?

It is not only safe but encouraged. God wants a relationship with you, and that means He wants to hear your fears just as He wants to hear your joys. He is described in Scripture as one who is close to the brokenhearted.
